We all know the saying, "it takes a village", and being a parent to someone with Down syndrome is no different. It is critical that families receive accurate, compassionate, and relevant information and support on this journey. From diagnosis to adolescence to adulthood to senior care - community support is instrumental. From sharing resources, to creating friendships, to being a hand to hold along the way, we cherish this opportunity to bind our families together and create a welcoming community.
While parenting can be a challenge, regardless of your child's ability, the outlook for our loved ones with Down syndrome is so bright! Even recent studies have shown that despite potential challenges, parenting or caring for someone with Down syndrome is largely positive and profoundly impacts their lives for the better.
Our New Parent Welcome program aims to help parents upon receiving a Down syndrome diagnosis. It can be a scary and confusing time, and we want to be there to help parents work through this time. Knowing you're not alone, and your feelings are valid, is one of the most important pieces of reassurance parents need to hear.
