A few years ago, we shifted our programs to better meet our families' needs. With busy lives, and sometimes long commutes to our events, we now host a few large events a year instead of lots of small events. This has greatly increased participation and satisfaction.
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21st (3-21) in honor of individuals with Down syndrome who have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. Each year we celebrate with our members at the zoo! It's a relaxing, go at your own pace, event where families can enjoy the zoo together. We give our guests matching shirts so we spread awareness across the whole zoo and community that day!
Summer days are long and hot in Arizona, so one day a year we rent out the Children's Museum Tucson to let our families enjoy a meal together while taking advantage of the indoor museum. It's another great opportunity for our new & veteran families to connect, relax, and create friendships.
In addition to being our largest fundraiser of the year, the walk is our most cherished event for our families. We have a resource fair that hosts partners from across the region. Our hope is to provide a one-stop-shop for our families to connect with crucial service providers. From state agencies, to doctors, to therapists, to support groups, we have resources that span needs across the lifespan. Additionally, the event has lots of fun and entertainment for our families while they visit the resource fair and connect/reconnect with friends and family.
